Sniper shot vs Bulletproof glass
What type of glass did they have??
What type of bullet was used??? Either way they are lucky as sin. |
Re: Sniper shot vs Bulletproof glass
Bullerproof glass is pretty amazing. My guess would be that the shot came from a Dragunov sniper rifle chambered in 7.62x54R. Now where can I get some of that glass for the coming s*** storm?

http://www.firstdefense.com/html/Bal...eat_Levels.gifIf I have to scoot out of town I only have a PASGT kevlar vest and an MK-6 British kevlar helmet, and some bifocal glasses... I'm on a 'sensible' SHTF kind of budget ... but I got something. :ok: BTW the standard auto glass is pretty tough and a window rolled down makes a car door pretty good armor, but mine will be up if TSHTF. And bullets angle up high if they penetrate a slanted windshield, so aim a little low with your rifle. Pistol rounds may even glance up and off. |
Re: Sniper shot vs Bulletproof glass
Iraq? Probably 7.62x54R Dragunov or similar.

Re: Sniper shot vs Bulletproof glass
funny story about bullet proof glass.
Years ago I built in a store front for a check cashing company. You know in a strip mall situation they have the shell & you go & do the inside for the business to start up. We installed 2 large sheets of it & it was about 3/4 inch thick & heavy as hell. Had to laugh though as we installed it I mentioned to my worker how dumb it was as this window was waist & up. But below counter/window height was drywall over studs. I even mentioned it to the owner who told me not to worry as crooks were not that smart. |

Re: Sniper shot vs Bulletproof glass
I've always wondered how dangerous those shards that fly off the back of the glass are. I mean, if I were operating a vehicle under fire protected by BP glass and shards were flying off on the inside would I be getting lacerations and gouges or would the pieces just bounce around?
I wonder how late this post is too, I just killed an hour reading the BOT. |

The clerk is going to duck down below counter level and if the perp is pissed he will put a couple shots through the wall below the window. Then the store owner is going to have to spend his day off cleaning blood off the floor of his store. |
Re: Sniper shot vs Bulletproof glass
Thanks Hoader! Quigley was right, the pistols and 308 FMJs bounced off and the slugs and 45/70s blew right through; mass does matter!

Re: Sniper shot vs Bulletproof glass
Yeah I thought it was funny too.
I imagined the perp telling the clerk I will blow your knee caps off. Then the clerk sitting with his legs up on the stool. Or better yet the perp just kicking his way through the drywall & taking what he wants & save the bullets :) |
Re: Sniper shot vs Bulletproof glass
A while back I was associated with the construction of a number of banks. I remember looking at a label on a drive through teller window that said "This window is resistant to medium power small arms". I wondered how a teller, staring at the muzzle of a pistol, could make a snap decision on whether the pistol she was looking at was medium or high power.

Pretty funny if she asked eh? Sometimes you have to wonder....Like in your example why did they put anything other than a bulletproof sticker on the glass |
Re: Sniper shot vs Bulletproof glass
there is no way that window stopped a 7.62x54r unless it was ultra long range... more likely it was a stray 9mm or some shrapnel.
PS. There is only bullet "resistant" glass... no such thing as bulletproof. |
